I love drawing and painting so much that exploring different mediums is a delight and a quest to challenge myself to keep growing. I see it like a dance! dancing with the mediums and getting the most artistic evolution out of each.

This is a longer process, where I have time to think, get deeply in touch with my feelings creating oil paintings with a strong emotional meaning to me. I translate my feelings, often sadness or what I need in my life like painting a joyful horse to feel happy or a horse surrounded by light for hope during dark times, or a happy peaceful angel horse to help me grieve a lost equine friend thinking that he/she is well, and pain-free over the rainbow bridge. Other times I transcend life dramas that affect me in an oil painting. Some are tributes to memories I cherish, like moments with my horses or enhanced by my imagination visiting other realms and creating magical or mystical horses, painting the invisible to the eye.
Acrylic paint is chosen for faster studies, colour tests and experimentation. I must work faster, so good knowledge of the horse, it's nature, expressions and anatomy are important. I like to play with effects this paint creates and challenge myself to imagine horses into these effects. These paintings are more like dreams, visits to other realms and imaginary or subconscious states.
Painting these is a form of meditation for me. It is a special moment for myself, a quiet, introspective one. I paint my China ink horses in the tradition of Sumi-e traditional Chinese art. I use the traditional tools (ink stone, grinding ink stick, Chinese brushes, rice paper) with great respect. While I grind the ink, I settle, sip white tea and interiorize to contact horse spirits. When I feel one coming to me, I challenge myself to represent it in a simple way, focussing mostly on emotion, impressions, movement. I paint fast but precisely, no mistakes allowed, black ink can't be erased or touched up so it can be intimidating - that is why I do it! no room for mistakes! Facing even the tiniest fears is very important to be able to let the art living inside my heart emerge into the world.
